Hello, my dear! How are you and how is your heart today? Have you had a chance to enjoy yourself in this moment, yet? Or are you checking email while cooking, brushing your teeth, and trying to tell your spouse coffee is done with airplane lander signals? I hear ya.
Speaking of texting while cooking, one morning recently, I was doing my feelings check-in with my wife. We do this over text. Usually, it’s just me, my breakfast, and the speak-to-text mode on my phone. Makes me feel I get to eat breakfast with my wife. Anyhoo, on this morning, I wanted my favorite black bean recipe. Which meant chopping veggies.
Long story short, on my pointer finger, half of my nail got sliced through, and a wee bit of the underlying finger. Ouch! Yep, I wasn’t paying attention to cutting while texting. After many strings of the rated R-version of son-of-a-nutcracker and a few minutes under the sink, the wound was bandaged.
What we don’t notice when we’re going through life can hurt us. Sometimes, like that day, it was obvious. Other times, like how we respond to others, how we think we’re “helping” them, it isn’t.
What’s the first step? Listening.
