It is four days after the winter solstice. The sun graces our northern hemisphere a couple more minutes each day. Bringing gifts of awakening and light. And the promise of vaccines bringing the gift of life at the end of this horrific pandemic tunnel, too.
And it’s Christmas!
I recently watched a show about an ancient Christian holy site in Ethiopia. What a priest said really struck me. “We tell the people that God became human and a human became God. Because of Christ, we went from being punished by God, to be his children again. Christmas is the day that forgiveness was born.”
My eyes teared up. Thinking of the months and years I was ashamed of “how I was doing” as a mom. When I cried in bathroom stalls and was ashamed. The years it took me to forgive myself for not knowing I was gay. So much time spent in my own shroud.
Whether or not you are Christian, I offer you the gift of forgiveness. Can you forgive yourself for all that has happened, all that you’ve done, all that you are? Can you forgive and love your infinitely perfectly imperfect self? Or, as Dr. Seuss more-eloquently said,
“Today you are you, that is truer than true. There is no one alive that is youer than you.”
Sending you infinite forgiveness and Christmas love. I thank God everyday for your divine soul to share life with.
