1 Secret Lemonade Recipe for when life sucks

Hello, my beautiful friend! How are you and how are you taking care of your big heart today? How have you met this week? I just had a lovely weekend sans kids and with my wife. No cleaning. No planning. Some home cooking, laughing, singing, and dancing. Though our lives are firmly afloat an unknown sea, and my teen is now driving on the highway 😬, I took time for self-care for myself and my relationship.

But, Today, I woke up with an image in my brain from my life six years ago, when my life was also adrift in an unknown sea…

I sat there on the curb, outside of my work. The day before spring break. The first day of my honeymoon. Most all of my belongings in a box next to me.

Why didn’t I just drive to work today? Why is this happening to me? What about everyone else? I’m doing such a good job, it doesn’t make any sense. My mind circles down the drain as I hold back a damn full of tears.

Out of the side of my eye, I see everyone else at my soon-to-be-former workplace (because, honey, I still have to show up for the next two months like the girl wearing a scarlet letter) eating lunch and laughing.

I spend the next week trying my best to enjoy my honeymoon. Which consists of days on a glorious southeastern Georgia island, nights writing and crying out the many ways I don’t belong and I suck.

So, what do you do when life hands you three-ton lemons? How about just one lemon? Do you blame yourself? Do you look for something wrong in you? Do you work harder or try to work more perfectly next time? How about constantly making sure at least others are happy with you? Does any of this resonate?

Sucktown: Population of 1
