Just who do you think you are?

Written in honor of International Women’s Day 2021 #IWD2021 #ChooseToChallenge

Hey amazing soul! You can CLICK HERE to see me read it on Facebook!

I am recovering woman.
  Watching the boys
    following His dreams.
"Wanna hear another dumb blonde joke?"

I am recovering woman.
   Waiting for husband
     to come home from work
"I cannot live without you."

Just who do you think you are?

I am recovering mother.
  Beaten to sleep
    society's dream.
"Of course I iron my babies' clothes."

I am recovering mother.
   Given an apron
     to my momma's dreams.
"Here's how you make mashed potatoes, dear."

Just who do you think you are?

I am recovering soul.
  Shaken awake
   from repressive demons.
"Coffee doesn't make me feel fine anymore."

I am recovering soul.
   Blazing light
    into my discarded depths.
"I didn't think anyone could cry so much."

Just who do you think you are?

I am uncovering Love.
  Budding flower
    in the snow, grateful for
    frozen food.

I am uncovering Love.
   Drawing lines
in the sand, I love you,
     and No.

Just who do you think you are?

I am, finally, Joy.
  Listening for the
    hummingbird, my heart,
    my teenagers, my enemies.
"We are all worthy of the sunshine."

I am, finally, Joy.
   Laughing with grace,
    humble voyager.
"Hey honey, I found my underwear in my pant leg again."

With love, light, and gratitude,

Heidi Esther, your MomSanity Bear

From asleep and wearing other’s expectations, to a watery mess, to a humble, grace-filled soul. That has been my journey to Joy and Love. So far. To be clear, my journey was, and still is, more of a fractal than a straight line.

PROMPT: Can you reflect and write your path? What have been the defining moments in your life, and what have you learned? Can you look back on those moments with pride and love? If not, what is standing in the way? Can you journal or talk to a trusted adult about it? It’s only your life at stake. Yes, you are worthy of the sunshine. No. Matter. What.
